    36,000 athletes are estimated to take part in the national games

    It is estimated that 36,000 athletes, as well as 45,000 volunteers, would take part in The 15th National Games of the People’s Republic of China and The 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities & the 9th National Special Olympic Games of the People’s Republic of China, introduced by the organizing committees at the news conference held on June 18.The above-mentioned games would be hosted jointly for the first time by Guangdong Province, Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR of China. With the opening ceremony and closing ceremony respectively held in Guangzhou city and Shenzhen city of Guangdong Province, the games would take place in 19 cities of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Compared with the previous sessions, the games of this year boasts the largest number of host cities.The 15th National Games would involve 57 sports, while The 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities & the 9th National Special Olympic Games would include 46 sports, all on the ever largest scale.In total, 105 arenas are designated for the games. The 89 ones in Guangdong Province, apart from the 6 temporary ones, have been prepared well. 90% of the arenas in Guangdong Province are prepared by renovating the previously-existing arenas, while 22 arenas are shared ones, according to the related introduction.In preparation for the games, Guangdong Province sees 228 designated hospitals for the medical service, as well as the special meteorological stations for the weather forecast. 5 rounds of inspection have been conducted for the prevention of possible risks. Some major arenas are equipped with dual electrical power systems to guarantee the power supply. Besides, the province has also recruited about tens of thousands of volunteers from its 98 colleges and universities, for the hosting of the games above mentioned.

    As approved by Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, the former Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology, located in Longgang District, will operate as a university and be renamed Shenzhen University of Information Technology.In 2025, the new university will have 5 vocational and undergraduate programs, involving software engineering technology, modern communication engineering, integrated circuit engineering technology, smart manufacturing engineering technology, and embedded technology. 

    A warning against the weather changes caused by Typhoon Wutip

    Wutip -- the No.1 typhoon of this year, comes, as its core reached the sea about 205 kilometers southeast to Sanya City of Hainan Province at 5 o’clock in this morning and is moving towards the coastal area along south Hainan Island, at a speed of about 10 kilometers/h, according to Ministry of Natural Resources of the People’s Republic of China.With the increasing intensity, Typhoon Wutip is forecast to hit the coastal area spanning from Lingshui to Ledong of Hainan Province, from the next dawn to morning.From this noon to the next, Typhoon Wutip would cause huge and raging waves breaking in the west of South China Sea, and great and huge waves lapping on the immediate offshore areas in the east and south of Hainan Province. Guangdong Province and Hainan Province both gave the warnings against the consequent storm tides.According to the forecast from Meteorological Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality, Typhoon Wutip would bring the city strong winds and heavy rains. Citizens are advised to take precautions against the severe weather. 

    An original film from Longgang District dominated for international award

    Recently, The Last Summer -- a film created by a Longgang-based enterprise, named Shenzhen Yuguang Cultural Communication Co., Ltd, has been nominated for “Asian New Talent” Award, an award of the 27th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF), which would happen from Jun. 13-22.The Last Summer drew great attention from the early stage of the creation. It is a social realist film which mainly tells a story of how an accident caused by a falling object shatters the seemingly-peaceful life. It reflects the topics related to the adolescent anxiety, family frictions, social stress and moral judgement.Still of “The Last Summer” filmShanghai International Film Festival is the only FIAPF-accredited competitive feature film festival in China. It has great influence in Asia.     Some events of The 15th National Games of the People’s Republic of China to be held in Longgang District of Shenzhen

    The 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities & the 9th National Special Olympics Games, the People’s Republic of China, would begin the cycling event (track cycling and road cycling) at Longgang District International Cycling Field and Longkou Reservoir, located in Longgang District, which signifies the beginning of the events of The 15th National Games of the People’s Republic of China to be held in Shenzhen.105 golds are set for the cycling event to be held in Longgang District. Indeed, the district would see many sport events of The 15th National Games, as Shenzhen Universiade Center here has been chosen as a venue in Shenzhen for hosting the National Games.To speak specifically, the men’s football for the under 18 years old and men’s football for the under 20 years old are scheduled to take place, respectively from Oct. 14-25 and Nov. 01-12, at the stadium of Shenzhen Bao’an Sports Center, the stadium of Shenzhen Sports Center, Shenzhen Teen Football Training Base and the stadium of Shenzhen Universiade Center.The swimming events, including the freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly stroke, medlay of swimming, are scheduled for Nov. 10-17 at the natatorium of Shenzhen Universiade Center.The women’s basketball for the under 22 years old would be held from Nov. 08-16 at the stadium of Shenzhen Universiade Center and the stadium of Shenzhen Bay Sports Center. 

    The 21st ICIF ended on May 26

    The 21st China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair (the 21st ICIF) came to an end on May 26. During the five-day event, over 120,000 cultural products were exhibited, with more than 4,000 cultural investment projects presented and negotiated. The 21st ICIF, together with the relevant activities, recorded more than 2.2 million visits in total.About 6,280 government units, cultural institutions and enterprises participated in the 21st ICIF, 265 more than the previous session. The exhibition section named “Cultural and Creative China”, as a major part of the event, occupied about 3,000 square meters, increasing from 1,300 square meters of the previous session. At the “Cultural and Creative China” exhibition, over 100 institutions, enterprises and famed IP units exhibited their cultural and creative products.The 21st ICIF saw the extensive international participation. It reached the historical high in the number of “Belt and Road” participants, global cooperation, and the product categories. It welcomed participants from 65 nations and regions all over the world, more than 50 ones of which were the nations along the Belt and Road. Nations, such as Poland, Austria, Romania, Russia, Brazil, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Nepal, South Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, Egypt, Ghana, Uganda, exhibited their characteristic cultural products at the 21st ICIF.The 21st ICIF featured the AI-themed exhibition section, where over 60 AI enterprises showcased their AI products and the application scenarios.The exhibitions and the relevant experience activities, during the 21st ICIF, stimulated the new momentum for cultural consumption.     Results of the dragon boat racing held on May 24

    The dragon boat racing was held along Longgang River (the section from Huilong Bridge to Funing Bridge) on May 24. It attracted 16 teams from the countries like Singapore, Malaysia, and from Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA）and other cities and places of China. Eventually through the competitive races, Guangdong Huangpu Xianghe Dragon Boat Team won the championship, Macao Wuwei Kafei Dragon Boat Team took the second place, and Zhuhai Tianma Dragon Boat Team took the third place.

    Congratulations: A college in Longgang District gains the approval to operate as university

    On May 22, Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China approved of the promotion of 32 junior colleges to universities.3 colleges in Guangdong Province were permitted to operate as universities, which included the one located in Longgang District, named Shenzhen Institution of Information Technology.Profile of Shenzhen Institution of Information Technology:Shenzhen Institution of Information Technology was founded as a full-time and public college by the People’s Government of Shenzhen Municipality in 2002.It is introduced that it covers a land of about 1387.40 mu (approximately 924933.33 square meters) and boasts a floor area of about 538,700 square meters, with a faculty of 1,348. There are about 15,037 students studying on the campus.It has 54 information-relevant majors, including 20 national-level ones, offering education on integrated circuit, industrial software, artificial intelligence, intelligent manufacturing, unmanned aerial vehicle, etc.Picture of the school (source: the official website of the school)
