An inclusive tournament of the board game xiangqi, also known as Chinese chess, in Longgang district, has forged people-to-people cultural bonds, bringing together 32 elite players from Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan for contests from Sept 12 to 13.
The competition adopted a seven-round Swiss-system format, removing separate divisions, so all players competed purely on chess prowess.
Shenzhen took the team championship. Local competitor Tong Yanzhong claimed the overall individual title, with Shen Zhendong winning the inclusive individual category.
Tong said the cross-regional matches broadened his horizons and lauded the event's comprehensive support.
Hong Kong player Yang Enhua spoke highly of its fair inclusive rules and friendly onsite atmosphere.
