Shenzhen's Longgang district welcomed 922,500 tourist visits during the five-day May Day holiday, a 6.12 percent year-on-year increase, generating tourism revenue of 707 million yuan ($104 million), local authorities reported on May 8.
The holiday surge was fueled by major events including a Phoenix Legend concert at the Shenzhen Universiade Center and the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, along with tech-driven attractions such as a restaurant served by robot waiters and digital art exhibitions.
The district also rolled out ticket-stub benefit programs linking concerts and sports events to nearby shopping malls and hotels, effectively converting event traffic into sustained consumer spending.
