Yuemei Contemporary Art Center opened in Shenzhen on March 14, with its inaugural exhibition titled Beyond Expression: Reconstructing the Inward Structure of Painting.

The exhibition features works by six artists: Liu Ke, Luo Qi, Hao Qiang, Huang Jia, Chen Zijun and Wen Zhenfei. It is presented across six independent spaces, each dedicated to one artist, guiding visitors through six distinctive approaches to the concept of "inward structure".

During the opening ceremony, artists performed live improvisations to demonstrate their creative process. Curator Yin Yan led guided tours to explain the ideas behind the exhibits.

Founded by art scholar and collector Liu Yiqiu, Yuemei Contemporary Art Center traces its cultural roots to Shenzhen Fufa Printer, a major cultural enterprise established in 1993. With over 30 years of heritage, the center aims to build an international contemporary art institution.

Yin Yan defined the academic theme as "abstract expressionism", noting that artists in the Greater Bay Area have developed unique introspective methods. Liu Ke said the show offered valuable artistic dialogue in Shenzhen, a hub for abstract art in China.

As the first installment of the "Yue + Contemporary" series, the exhibition will be followed by more shows featuring six artists. The center plans to further promote high-quality development of contemporary art in Longgang and the Greater Bay Area.
