Robot traffic police inform e-bike rider to put on a helmet.
Shenzhen's AI-powered robot traffic police resumed duty on March 6 in Longgang district, upgraded from a publicity officer to a traffic supervisor.
Equipped with visual AI recognition technology, the robot monitors traffic flow at the Wuhe Avenue and Meiban Avenue crossing. When it detects e-bike riders without helmets or vehicles stopping beyond the white line, it issues a warning whistle and delivers instant persuasion through gestures and voice prompts.
It can also perform standard traffic hand signals using high-precision joints, fully synchronized with traffic lights to guide vehicle flow.
The upgrade frees frontline officers from repetitive tasks, allowing officers to focus on maintaining traffic flow and responding more flexibly on the ground. Going forward, the robot will also support DUI checks, accident response, automated violation detection, and evidence collection — helping move urban traffic management toward smarter, technology-assisted enforcement.
