Shenzhen has released China's 1st roadmap for an AI glasses standards system, aiming to provide a clear standardization path for the industry's regulated and large-scale development as the city pushes to become the world's leading hub for AI glasses.
The project, titled "Shenzhen AI Glasses Standards System Implementation Roadmap (2026 Edition)", outlines a framework with six primary sub-systems: basic and general standards, product technical performance, human factors and health, testing and evaluation, industry applications, and safety and compliance. It covers 129 existing and upcoming standards at national, industry, group, local and international levels.
Shenzhen, in Guangdong province, has one of the world's most complete glasses manufacturing supply chains. Longgang district, the city's earliest and most concentrated production area for regular eyewear, is home to nearly 1,000 manufacturers of glasses. One in two high-end glasses worldwide is made in Shenzhen. The "Henggang Glasses" brand, produced in the city's Longgang district, has been recognized as a "China Consumer Famous Brand" by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
The roadmap proposes 40 standards to be developed, with 15 already in progress. Shenzhen aims to develop or revise over 30 standards by 2028, focusing on terminology, basic performance, data security, privacy protection, visual health and wearing comfort.
By 2030, the city plans to have developed over 60 standards in this field and built a public testing and certification platform for AI glasses. In the longer term, it will push for standards on industrial applications and export compliance, and lead or participate in developing over five international standards for such high-tech glasses.
Wang Xingyao, head of the roadmap drafting team and director of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Standard Innovation Alliance, said the roadmap will use standards to break down industrial barriers and support product development, testing, application and international expansion.
