On October 23, 2024 GBA AI Industrial Conference was held in Nansha District of Guangzhou Municipality. At the conference, the White Paper on Guangdong Provincial AI Industrial Development (2024) was issued. According to the White Paper, the AI industry of Guangdong Province hit the scale of about 180 billion yuan until 2023, up about 18% year on year. By December 2023, Guangdong Province witnessed over 140,000 AI patents totally, ranking the first across the nation.
AI enterprises are of great significant for the industrial development. The White Paper indicated that Guangdong Province boasted over 1,500 prominent AI enterprises by September 2024, including 101 national specialized “little-giant” AI enterprises, 26 “unicorn” AI enterprises, 90 AI listed enterprises.
The conference publicized Guangdong Province’s first 66 classic cases involved in applying AI to 12 sectors like technological breakthrough, manufacture, medical treatment, transportation, education.
“AI technologies are penetrating into every economic sector of the province.Thus are AI equipment, AI factory, AI service and many other AI application scenarios triggered. Accordingly do new manufacture, new service, new business format and new product come into being,” expressed by the person in charge of Digital Industry Promotion Office under Department of Industry and Information Technology of Guangdong Province. It has been realized among the enterprises of Guangdong Province that AI technological revolution and AI industrial reform could bring great strategic chances.
Currently, advanced AI technologies are mainly applied to manufacture, operation, management and the key sectors alike, so would they be applied to the sectors like research, design, storage, logistics. For some instances, AI could help to shorten a day’s design work to only several minutes’, raise the efficiency of production by 30%, and improve storage capacity by 50%.
“At present, big models have enter into the stage for the accelerated development,” expressed by the fore-mentioned person in charge. But, there are still a series of problems, such as the inadequacy of big models in the vertical sectors, the little appropriateness between the big models and the production scenarios, the high application costs.
“Our next step is to establish a public service platform for the application of AI in the manufacturing sector and to regularly launch classic AI application cases, the terminal products, big models and the application scenarios, so as to make AI benefit more industries and especially the new industrialization,” expressed by the fore-mentioned person in charge.
There would be an explosive surge in the number of AI trainers. The White Paper forecasted that there would be over 1,000 applicants in Guangdong Province for the professional titles to work in AI sector in 2024.
Besides, at the conference were GBA (Nansha) AI Industrial Empowerment Center and GBA (Nansha) AI Industrial Innovation Center inaugurated, which would aim at promoting the cultivation of AI professionals as well as the transformation and upgrade of the AI sector in GBA, so as to further enhance the innovative development of AI sector in GBA.
