Brief Introduction to Intangible Cultural Heritage

As of April 2026, Longgang district has 57 district-level and higher intangible cultural heritage (ICH) representative projects, including one national-level, five provincial-level, 10 municipal-level, and 41 district-level projects. Currently, 51 individuals have been designated as district-level and higher ICH representative inheritors, including 1 national-level and 2 provincial-level inheritors.

From the powerfulQilin Dance and Longgang Dragon Dance, to the Chaoshan colored porcelain and jade carving, to the melodiousLonggang Jiege and Hakka Rhyme, and further totime-honored medical crafts of bone-setting and moxibustion, Longgang districtis home to a rich variety of intangible cultural heritage items. Like vivid history textbooks, they document the local customs, folk beliefs, and artistic wisdom of this land, embodying the dedication and perseverance of the inheritors while reflecting the profound depth of Chinese culture.

The Longgang District Cultural Center has established a 300-square-meter ICH exhibition hall on the second floor. Through illustrated display panels, precious ICH artifacts, vivid multimedia presentations, and hands-on craft experiences, the hall comprehensively showcases all 57 representative ICH projects in Longgang, allowing visitors to gain a one-stop, intuitive understanding of the protection and inheritance of Longgang’s intangible cultural heritage. The exhibition hall opens its doors to the public every weekend, inviting every citizen who loves life and culture to come and relax their minds while immersing themselves in culture.

From establishing robust protection mechanisms to promoting the vitalization and utilization of these traditions, and organizing a rich array of ICH activities, Longgang has established a four-tier ICH protection inventory system, ensuring that a host of precious intangible cultural heritage items are effectively protected, preserved, and utilized.
