Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology (SZIIT) recently welcomed the first batch of exchange students from Kempten No. 1 vocational college in Germany.

The delegation has six students and one teacher. The exchange project, lasting two weeks, covered both theoretical and practical courses.

The exchange students attended courses related to industrial robotics and industrial networks with local students during the first week (from Jan. 6 to 10) and then visited companies like Huawei, Huaxingdingsheng and DOBOT the following week.

“It takes us about one hour to reach the center of the city, which is impossible in Germany. It is hard for us to imagine how big the city is and what kinds of changes have taken place over the past 40 years,” said Josef Schmid, a teacher with the German school.

Phillip Scholl was surprised by the campus, which has nearly 20,000 students, given that the school back in his hometown only has 2,000 students. Scholl was also impressed by various kinds of activities organized by clubs.

These German students also tried their hands at traditional manual activities like decorating a traditional musical instrument called Qinqin, wore Hanfu to experience traditional Chinese culture and were invited to interact with students who are learning the German language at Shenzhen No. 3 Senior High School.

SZIIT has also selected a total of six students and a teacher to go to Germany for the exchange.

Its Sino-German School, established in 2017, introduced the German vocational education concept and learned from the German vocational education training system, also known as the dual training system, and the German education and teaching standards to develop internationalized, highly skilled personnel featuring the craftsman’s spirit.

Liu Jieying, a student from SZIIT, visited Germany this January. She said that the visit and the dual training model made her more confident about her future career plan because the whole idea helps students best apply what they have learned from the classes.
