Introduction:

The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen was founded in accordance with the Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on Chinese-foreign Cooperation in Running Schools upon approval by the Ministry of Education. It strives to explore a new path of higher education featured by strong connections to both China and the world. The University is committed to providing top-quality higher education that features an integration of the East and the West and fostering an enriching research environment. It is CUHK-Shenzhen’s mission to cultivate innovative talents with a global perspective, Chinese cultural traditions and social responsibilities.

Currently, more than 10,000 students are studying at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen.

Over the past ten years, the University has established seven schools, namely the School of Management and Economics, the School of Science and Engineering, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the School of Data Science, the School of Music, the School of Medicine and the School of Public Policy. These seven schools, together with the Graduate School, offer 28 undergraduate programmes and 46 postgraduate programmes.

CUHK-Shenzhen adopts a college system. Seven colleges have been established, which are Shaw College, Diligentia College, Muse College, Harmonia College, Ling College, Minerva College and the Seventh College. The Colleges break the walls between different majors, grades, and backgrounds to provide a platform for informal and whole-person education. 

CUHK-Shenzhen encourages international experiences and seeks to nurture global awareness. As of now, it has signed agreements with more than 140 renowned universities in 30 countries across the globe, offering around 250 international programmes of different types. Over 60% students have credit-bearing overseas experience.

The University globally has gathered the world’s leading scholars and scientists. By now, around 600 distinguished scholars have joined the faculty team, each of whom has had teaching or research experience overseas, including 5 Nobel laureates, 2 Turing Award laureates, 1 Fields Medal winner and more than 40 fellow members of science academies around the world. Together with their knowledge and expertise, they bring to CUHK-Shenzhen their vision, creativity, passion and dedication for education.

Rising up to the challenges and opportunities of the Greater Bay Area and modern China at large, CUHK-Shenzhen is strengthening its research teams of experts and professionals in big data and data science, future intelligent network, bioinformatics, new materials and energy, finance and logistics, robotics and intelligent manufacturing, drug discovery and precise medicine, and other areas of sci-tech innovation.

Introduction:

Built on the important consensus reached by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Shenzhen MSU-BIT University (SMBU) is a non-profit Chinese-foreign cooperative university jointly founded by the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government, Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) and Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), with an independent legal entity status.

Committed to building a world-class comprehensive and research-oriented university with distinctive strengths in its disciplines and global perspective, the University carries a glorious mission and a lofty mandate to nurture talents for the Belt & Road initiative, and dedicates herself into the development of elite education as well as high-level research and innovation activities. The University is determined to nurture high-caliber talents and achieve high-quality academic excellence for China-Russia strategic cooperation and regional economic and social development.

With the aim of training leading professionals in various fields, SMBU offers undergraduate, graduate, and PhD programs as well as non-diploma programs to current and prospective students. In the long run, SMBU expects to fulfill its capacity of 5000 students with the undergraduates-to-graduates ratio reaching 1:1. SMBU started to enroll undergraduate and graduate students in 2017 and PhD students in 2018.

Chinese, Russian and English are the teaching languages at the University. SMBU adopts the “6:3:1 Evaluation Model” for the admission of Chinese undergraduate students, which is distinctive from basing the evaluation solely on the National College Entrance Exams. Upon admission into the University, freshmen will be registered as both the students of MSU and SMBU.

In accordance with the relevant regulations and agreements, qualified undergraduate students will be conferred the diplomas of MSU as well as the education certificates and diplomas of SMBU, while graduate and PhD students of SMBU will receive degrees from MSU.

Faculty members engaging in teaching and research in SMBU are competitively selected by MSU and BIT. Specifically, over 50% of the teaching practitioners are renowned scholars from MSU; 71.86% of the teachers have attained vice-senior professional titles or above. In 2018, Professor Kir Zhanova Svetlana of the Russian Language Center was awarded the title of “Elite Teacher of Guangdong”. In 2020, Professor Budak Boris of the Department of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics was awarded the honor of “Elite Teacher of Shenzhen”.

The University has started recruitment of global talent. Priority will be given to attracting teams led by globally-esteemed scholars, leading professionals, and outstanding young teachers, with an aim to build a world-class team of teachers.

SMBU sets up enriching academic education and research institutions, specifically including Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics; Faculty of Materials Science, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Philology, Faculty of Biology, Faculty of Chemistry, Faculty of Geography, Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, Faculty of Management, Russian Language Center, Law Center, Art Center, Chinese Language Center, English Language Center, School of Marxism, Artificial Intelligence Research Center, Institute of Advanced Interdisciplinary Technology.
