Shenzhen-based Kandao Tech has grown from a startup into a global leader in 3D vision technology over the past decade, with overseas sales now accounting for 80 percent of total revenue.

Founded in 2016, the company developed its first product – the Obsidian 8K 3D panoramic camera – just 10 months after inception, becoming the first Chinese enterprise to win the CES Best of Innovation award in digital imaging. In 2021, it launched the world's first 12K 3D VR cinematic camera, the Obsidian Pro, which has been used in the Olympic Games, La Liga broadcasts and VR film productions.

"From the very beginning, we bet on building core technologies in-house," said Chen Dan, the company’s co-founder and CEO. "Shenzhen's complete and fast-iterating supply chain made it possible for us to turn ideas into products very quickly."

Kandao later expanded into AI-powered video conferencing with a 360-degree camera system that integrates 4K panoramic capture and AI recognition, giving remote participants an immersive, in-room meeting experience. The product became a major commercial success.

Chen attributes the company's strong overseas performance not just to technology, but to brand localization. "Successful global expansion means telling your brand story in a way local audiences understand and connect with – and that's our next priority," he said.
