During the recent 5 years, the quantity of artificial intelligence enterprises in China has increased from over 1400 to over 5000, approximately averaged out at 11 ones emerging per hour.

China has over 5000 artificial intelligence enterprises now, including over 400 national “Little-Giant” enterprises specialized in artificial intelligence, expressed by Xin Guobin, deputy minister of Industry and Information Technology of the nation, at the World Smart Industry Fair 2025(WSIF 2025) held in China’s southwest city -- Chongqing.

According to the statistical data in the China Internet Development Report 2021, China’s artificial intelligence enterprises in 2020 totaled 1454. The number triples during the following 5 years.

China attaches great importance to the artificial intelligence development. In July 2017, China issued the New-Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Plan. In this August, the nation released the Suggestions on the Further Implementation of “Artificial Intelligence+” Action. Acceleration should be made in building a new mode of smart economy and society characterized by the coordination between human beings and robots, the trans-sector integration and the collaborative creation and sharing, said in the Suggestions.

Xin Guobin stated that “China’s artificial intelligence industry has a more and more solid foundation, together with the emergence of more and more artificial intelligence products and the more deeply-penetrating application”. China has developed over 35,000 elementary, over 6300 advanced and over 230 superior artificial intelligence factories, as well as 11 national pilot zones for artificial intelligence innovation and application and 17 national-level demonstration zones for intelligent connected vehicle (ICV) testing, Xin added.

China has established a 60-billion-yuan investment fund for the artificial intelligence industry, formulated the management rules on artificial-intelligence-related science and technology ethics and services, formed China-BRICS Artificial Intelligence Development and Cooperation Center, and stipulated over 240 industrial standards of core artificial intelligence technologies, promoting the continuous optimization of the industrial ecology.

“China’s artificial intelligence sector develops faster and faster”, an enterprise representative participating in the WSIF 2025 expressed. As an example, humanoid robot sector experienced product iteration every two years before, but every each year now, the enterprise representative added.

“The sound development of China’s artificial intelligence could not only  be attributed to its combination of the beneficial experiences learned from the industry-leading nations and its self advantages spanning the rich data resources, complete industry system, vast application market, extensive market space”, expressed by Wan Gang, chairman of China Association for Science and Technology.
