On November 21, the 15th National Games of the PRC closed.
The closing ceremony themed “star and sea” was held at Bao’an Joyful Theatre of Shenzhen. The ceremony held in the open air nearby the seaside, signified the termination of the national games.
After over 4 years’ preparation, the 15th National Games was an international-level and Chinese-style sports carnival with characteristics of Lingnan and the GBA. The national games commenced on November 09. It covered 34 competitive sports and 23 recreational sports. Over 14,000 athletes, together with about 11,000 amateur players, participated in the national games totally.
The 15th National Games broke over 8 world records, 5 world youth records, 13 Asian records, 10 Asian youth records, 14 national records and 7 national youth records, for the events, like athletics, swimming, shooting, weightlifting, cycling track, rock climbing, that keep a record, as introduced by Tong Lixin, the deputy director of the organizing committee of the 15th National Games and the deputy director of the General Administration of Sport of China. The best scores at the 12 events of the 15th National Games overwhelmed those at Olympic Games Paris 2024. Those just demonstrated the nation’s achievements in competitive sports field, expressed by Tong.
The 15th National Games showed the merits of the nation’s “One Country, Two Systems” policy, facilitated the coordination in the GBA, innovated the new mechanism to “host cooperatively a game and follow commonly a policy and regulation in 3 places”, accelerated the flow of human resources, goods and information, and contributed useful experiences for the regional coordinated development, Tong added.
It was also introduced that the General Administration of Sport of China would sign, with the authorities of the GBA, the Agreements on the Strengthened Cooperation in Sports Career for the Coordinated Development, so as to fully play the unique roles of the sports career in pushing the coordination in the GBA.
