The Trophee des Champions (Champions’ Trophy), a French association soccer trophy contested in an annual match between the champions of Ligue 1 and the winners of the Coupe de France, will return to Shenzhen Universiade Center in Longgang District on Aug. 3.
Last year, Paris Saint-Germain scored 4-0 against Monaco in Shenzhen and this year, Paris Saint-Germain will compete against Stade Rennais. According to the organizer’s poster, highlighted stars of Paris Saint-Germain who may come to Shenzhen include Angel Di María, Thiago Silva, Edinson Cavani, Neymar and Kylian Mbappé. The Stade Rennais side may include Ismaila Sarr, Clément Grenier, Benjamin Bourigeaud, Adrien Hunou and M’Baye Niang.
The Parisian club established itself as a major force in France, and one of the major forces of European soccer in the past 10 years. The club has won a total of 37 major trophies, making it the most successful French club in history by this measure. Paris SG is also the only club to have never been relegated from Ligue 1 and one of only two French clubs to have won a major European title.
Stade Rennais’ best finish in the Ligue 1 has been fourth with the club accomplishing this feat on four occasions, most recently in 2006-07. Rennes has won three Coupe de France titles in 1965, 1971 and 2019.
