SHENZHEN MSU-BIT University (SMBU) held its commencement ceremony for the 2021 graduates including the school’s first batch of 100 undergraduate students and another 31 postgraduate studentson the afternoon of June 26 on its Longgang campus. The ceremony was also simultaneously held online due to the still ongoing pandemic.

Andrey Denisov, Russian ambassador to China, congratulated the fresh graduates via video. Denisov suggested that the building of SMBU over the past five years has become the greatest chapter in Russia and China’s education cooperation.

Denisov also thanked the students and faculty members for their contribution to cultural exchanges and friendship between the two countries.

Zhu Dijian, Party secretary and vice rector of SMBU, read the congratulatory letters sent by the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPC, Shenzhen Municipal Government and Guangdong Provincial Education Department at the ceremony.

Li Hezhang, rector of SMBU, encouraged students to work hard to achieve their dreams, pursue a lifetime of learning to bear responsibilities of the times and devote themselves to scientific and technological innovations.

Among the 96 Chinese undergraduate students, 71 of them have been admitted to a master’s degree program in universities at home and abroad. Nine of them got offers from renowned companies like Huawei as of June 18, said SMBU.

For one graduate, Liu Xinhui, choosing SMBU is “the best decision she has ever made so far.” Upon starting with SMBU, Liu found that SMBU has high-quality teaching resources and a cultivation system that is both strict and inclusive.

“Our Russian teachers are extremely responsible. The learning environment pushed every student to work hard,” said Zhang Lin, a fresh undergraduate student majoring in Russian language.

Built on the important consensus reached by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, SMBU is a nonprofit Sino-foreign cooperative university jointly founded by the Shenzhen Municipal Government, Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) and Beijing Institute of Technology.

On Sept. 13, 2017, SMBU held a ceremony for the first batch of undergraduate students to kick off the new term, attended by leaders of the two countries.
