Wang Weizhong, deputy Party chief of Guangdong Province and Party chief of Shenzhen City, reiterated the importance of the cultural industry during an inspection to historical sites and cultural facilities in Longgang District on Feb.22. “Shenzhen should endeavor to become a city of innovation with global influences,” he said.
Wang visited Gankeng Hakka Town and carefully inspected urban renewal projects as well as the maintenance of historic buildings. He also visited creative stores, private museums and unique hotels, before hosting a meeting with Longgang District Government officials and staff of OCT group.
Wang stated that the outline of a development plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area required Shenzhen to be built into world-renowned city of innovation. Governments at different levels should implement the “2020 Plan of Cultural and Creative Development” of Shenzhen, and continuously enhance the city’s cultural power, he said.
Traditional and scientific spices should be added to the city’s modern culture to forge it into a pioneer of cultural creative and innovative industries, Wang stressed. In creation of Shenzhen’s cultural profile as a unique migrant city, its traditional features, exemplified by historical sites and indigenous townscapes, should be well preserved and rejuvenated, while promoting an inclusive culture embracing excellences from across the country, he said.
