Located in the northeast of Shenzhen, Longgang District lies to the west of Pingshan District, to the north of Luohu District and Yantian District, to the east of Longhua District and to the south of Huizhou City and Dongguan City. Covering an area of 388.21 square kilometers, Longgang District has 11 subdistricts including Pinghu, Bantian, Buji, Nanwan, Henggang, Longcheng, Longgang, Pingdi, Jihua, Yuanshan, Baolong, with a total of 111 communities. Longgang is located in the center of Shenzhen-Dongguan-Huizhou city circle on the east coast of Pearl River. It is regarded as the “Bridgehead fortress” for Shenzhen to link eastern Guangdong and northern Guangdong regions. Today, Longgang has grown from a less-developed area of Shenzhen to a sub-center of the city, with robust economy, harmonious society and nice environment.

Longgang District is an important base for high-tech, advanced manufacturing, logistics and financial industries of Shenzhen. In 2017, the regional GDP was 385.862 billion yuan, ranking second in the city, up 9.8 percent from the previous year.
The total fixed assets investment was 94.669 billion yuan, with an increase of 24.0 percent, and the growth rate reached a new high in seven years; The total consumer goods retail sales was 73.212 billion yuan, with an increase of 9.2 percent, and the growth rate was 0.9 percentage points higher than the previous year; The general public budget revenue was 23.678 billion yuan, which continues to be on the top three list in the city. The added value of industrial enterprises above designated size increased by 12.0 percent and reached 224.065 billion yuan, ranking first in the city. The total output value of the top 100 industrial enterprises increased 21.5 percent. For the first time, Huawei entered the Fortune Global 100. Longgang has a total of 21 listed companies, with three companies successfully carried out IPOs in 2017.
The industrial structure is being continuously optimized. It is estimated that the added value of strategic emerging industries will exceed 200 billion yuan, of which the added value of cultural and creative industries will be 28.928 billion yuan, with an increase of 9.4 percent yearly. It is estimated that the added value of the modern service industry will reach 78.3 billion yuan.

More than 236 projects that exceed 100 million yuan were introduced in Longgang this year. AeroJones Aviation, Protgen and other key projects were successfully signed. Six headquarters projects including PAX Technology were settled. 70 major industrial projects are accelerating construction. The phaseⅠof the Royole base has been basically completed. The development and industrialization of Tusincere Science and Technology Park, unmanned aerial vehicle and other projects are progressing smoothly. The Hong kong-shenzhen International Center has completed land sales as the one of the first batch major projects in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Collective economy accelerates transformation to high-end economy. Nanling Village Community Stock Co., Ltd. takes the lead in establishing a technology incubation platform. A total of 565,000 square meters of industrial housing were provided throughout the year. Longgang Chuangtou Building and Intelligent Homeland (Phase I) have been put into use. Construction of TiananYungu Phase II, Galaxy World and other innovative industrial parks are speeding up.
Longgang has a large-scale and all-inclusive education system that covers pre-primary education, compulsory education, secondary education, tertiary education, vocational education and special education. There are now 665 schools in Longgang (112 public schools, 78 private schools, 475 Kindergartens). The number of students is 458,900 (153,000 kindergarten students, 161,100 primary and middle school students at public schools and 148,800 primary and middle school students at private schools). Shenzhen International University Town has more than 20,000 students, studying at the campuses of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, the Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology and the Shenzhen MSU-BIT University.
In recent years, Longgang District has established itself as a national model zone for comprehensive prevention and treatment of chronic diseases, for TCM promotion, and for women’s and children’s healthcare. By the end of 2017, there were 1,031 medical and health institutions in the district, with four first 3-A rated hospitals including Longgang Central Hospital, Longgang TCM Hospital, Third Hospital of People’s Hospital of Shenzhen and Shenzhen Longcheng Hospital. Besides, there are the Cancer Hospital Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences Shenzhen Center, the Nanfang Hospital Digestive Diseases Shenzhen Center, Harvard Medical School South China International Education Center and other high-level medical projects.

Longgang enjoys a nice environment and good infrastructure. The main venue of the 26th Universiade, held in 2011, is located here. Traffic is very convenient, with Jihe, Shenshan, Huiyan, Shuiguan, Yanpai, Boshen expressways, and Guangshen, Jingjiu, Pingyan railways passing here. The largest railway marshalling station in South China --- Pinghu South Railway Marshalling Station --- is located here, as well as Shenzhen East Railway Station and Xiamen-Shenzhen Railway Shenzhen New Town Station. Metro Line 3 and line 5 cross the district. Construction of Line 10 has started. From Longgang, one can conveniently reach Shenzhen International Airport and various checkpoints to Hong Kong.
